☆IMAGE HEAVY!☆
Good evening, ladies and germs! I haven't blogged in a looooonnnggg time; been busy at work. ;__; sorry about that. Anyway, it's no secret that I love makeup. A lot of my friends come to me for beauty advice, but honestly I just recently started dolling up; blame it on Japanese Gyaru subculture, haha! And this is one of the main reasons why I started this blog in the first place: I'd like to share my thoughts on makeup and skin care stuff! And this is my first review (although I promised I'd review a lot of my previous hauls, but there's always the next post, right?)
I give you Lime Crime's Opaque Lipstick in Poisonberry. (Photos taken with my iPhone 4)
This is the cutest/most bad-ass lipstick packaging I've seen so far! *cough* Anyway, I got this from Sonja's Makeup Box for PhP750. Not bad for this little guy, methinks! :D I'd wanted to get a Lime Crime lipstick since I stumbled upon them on my tumblr feed [yes, I have a tumblr. Don't judge.]; luckily I found a local online seller who carries the brand! :D I also pre-ordered a few more Lime Crime stuff from them, and they'll probably arrive early next year. CANNOT WAIT.
A bit about Lime Crime: it's a US-based line started by makeup artist (and self-proclaimed Unicorn Queen) Doe Deere. Unlike most makeup brands, they carry supersaturated crazy rainbow colors in skin-friendly, cruelty-free, vegan formulas (formulae?); from pale blue lipstick to neon yellow liquid eyeliners, iridescent glitters and even awesomely cute hand mirrors! Lime Crime has a cult following among makeup artists, alt fashionistas and celebrities; and their stuff had been featured in international magazines! More about Lime Crime here!
On with the review! ♥
Poisonberry (on the right, along with Serpentina: a deep shimmery emerald lipstick) is part of the Alchemy collection, released last October 13, 2012. It features a shimmery dark blue-toned berry shade with a violet glow, making it the more-wearable one (I dare you to try wearing Serpentina to a corporate office. Haha! I would if I could, though. *smacked*). According to the website, it's a combination of a lipstick AND a lipstain, which means that it can last a looooooong time!
Look at it. JUST...LOOK AT IT. The 3-inch lavender tube is made of solid plastic, and has silver rainbowsparkly detailing of stars and a unicorn on one side, and the logo on the other. I don't think the holographic detailing comes off easily, but handle the tube with clean, dry hands if you want to retain its 'sparkliness'. Just to be sure. :D
Good news for vegans and animal-rights activists alike: Lime Crime lipsticks have no animal-based products, and are cruelty-free!
I heard that dark burgundy/oxblood/purple/wine lipsticks are all the rage for Fall 2012. Many brands carry the shades, but what makes Poisonberry unique is its slight duo-tone. Out of the tube, the purple lipstick has tiny pinkish-violet glitters in it, and a blue-violet shift. Kinda reminds me of a bruise, actually. Haha!
Most Lime Crime lipsticks are matte or flat-colored; The Alchemy collection breaks away from that with their shimmery formula. I like looking at it... it looks like someone took a whole bunch of blackberries/mullberries, smashed them with fairy dust, and poured it into this awesome little tube. :D

♥ SWATCHES ♥
That color payoff!!!! This is one of the most "true-to-the-tube" colors I have! The formula is super saturated, creamy, and leaves a nice violet-ish shimmer. It's also not as drying as MAC lipsticks. To get the best color and texture possible, I suggest gently exfoliating your lips and slicking on some lipbalm (I love my petroleum-free Vitamin E stick) about 10 minutes before you put this on...something I didn't do:
Lol, ignore the sloppy, direct-from-tube application. It's better to put this on using a lip brush, for more precision. Anyway, I know it's not like the advertisment photo, but when applied correctly it's the most beautiful dark berry shade ever! Check out Nancy of The Dark Side of Beauty wearing it:
From her Wicked Alchemy post. |
You can clearly see the blue-violet shift in ther picture! I need to practice putting on this lippie a bit more. /fail You can also top this off with lipgloss to make it shiny, but I personally prefer wearing it on its own. Did I mention that it doubles as a lip stain? That's right, even if you'd smacked the hell out of this lippie, or wiped the shimmery bits off, THE COLOR IS STILL THERE! It leaves a reddish berry hued stain that won't come off, unless you remove it with makeup remover (or in my case, jojoba or sweet almond oil). :O
♥ RECAP ♥
This is my first Lime Crime lipstick, and I wasn't disappointed. The color is gorgeous, the texture is soft and isn't too drying, it leaves a lovely stain, and it's something I can wear to work or when I'm out with friends! I'd totally recommend getting one of these. :D
